Got my first big assignment this week as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). I was asked to write an op/ed for the Knoxville News Sentinel in support Insure Tennessee, Gov. Bill Haslam’s plan to expand health care access to hundreds of thousands of hard-working, low-income Tennesseeans.
It was published Saturday. A link to my op/ed is here.
It got great play in the paper, running in the “Editorial” spot.
And the Coalition For a Healthy Tennessee reposted a link on their Facebook page.
I got a lot of great comments about the piece, and numerous expressions of support. Even the online comments are largely supportive of Insure Tennessee. It’s humbling to represent, in a little over 600 words, the shared opinion of so many people.
The Tennessee General Assembly will deliberate Insure Tennessee during a special session this week. There are a lot of voices speaking for, and against, Insure Tennessee. The most important voice our lawmakers can hear is yours. Visit the Tennessee General Assembly web site to contact your state representative and state senator.
I am proud to share my voice and my story. I only hope Tennessee lawmakers are listening.
